Available in 3 shades:
  •    Nude
  •    Pure Beige
  •    Soft Honey

My Opinion: - I have been a fan of Revlon Foundations since long. Though I used a number of other foundations from varied brands, none of them was very impressive on the coverage front. Last winter when mom gave me Avon Ideal Shade Liquid Foundation in the shade Pure Beige, which suited my skin tone very well, I was more than happy as I was planning to get it from my Avon Rep. I started applying it immediately and it left me happy enough. So last month I purchase my second bottle of this foundation, but this time in another shade- Soft Honey to match my summer skin tone. Today I am putting forward my views on this particular shade, though the formulation of every shade has to be the same.

The packaging of this product is very basic (read boring), squarish see through bottle with a squarish black plastic lid. The bottle, I can say is very sturdy because I dropped it many times on tiled/marble floors and got away with it. The consistency is between cream and lotion, I prefer calling it thick but not heavy. It is very light weight and I don’t feel that I am wearing a foundation. This foundation comes with SPF 10 which is an added advantage, don’t have to slather on an additional Sunscreen which saves time.

I usually apply it with a sponge, but at times I prefer to use a brush. Its blends like a dream and I don’t have to work hard on it. The coverage is buildable, light to medium, I can say. I don’t need to apply a concealer for minor flaws and my now-barely-there dark circles. Also it hides light ance marks and covers up my pores. But for the girls, who are used to heavy coverage, might not like this foundation. I can use this foundation around my eyes without problem, my eyes are very sensitive and not all foundations suit the area around my eyes.
With Flash

I have oily skin which turns to combination during the severe winters. This foundation has given me a satiny matte finish and is truly oil-free as claimed by the company. I am on my second bottle right now and I haven’t broken out because of it, also this product did not clog my pores as claimed by the company. The fragrance is extremely mild or maybe my nose is not sensitive enough to pick it up. But I have heard lots and lots of people complaining about some chemical smell. The staying power is moderate; stays on for the entire day with a little fading here and there but this can be fixed by using a primer underneath the foundation. Also a dusting of translucent powder fixes the oily t zone, blushers don’t cake over it and I don’t sweat around the mouth and nose after applying this foundation.

Pros: -
Swatched in natural light

  • Didn’t break me out
  • Non- Oily, Non-Comedogenic
  • Gives a lovely satiny matte look
  • Contains SPF 10, I use it at night also
  • Stays on for 5 hours without touch ups but using a primer beneath it increases its lasting power
  • Just a small blob is required for each application, so for me it went on for around about 3 months with regular application
  • Affordable, since it goes on for 3 months
  • Also it’s mostly on sale, so you need to keep it checking

Cons: -
Blended (in natural light)

  • It’s a little creamy hence I doubt its performance on my skin in the summers
  • Only 3 shades available
  • Light to medium coverage (buildable)
  • Not sweat proof
  • Oxidises a little on oily skin
  • Contains Parabens

I rate Avon Ideal Shade Liquid Foundation 4 out of 5 (-1 for all the cons, specially the nasty chemicals). I recommend this product to all foundation lovers with dry, normal & combination skin as I doubt its performance on oily skin in the summers. Also girls requiring heavy coverage stay away from this. Right now I am enjoying it, still waiting to see what happens in the peak of summers.

Hope you girls enjoyed reading this review; do share your experiences with us if any with this particular foundation. Thank you and do have a great day ahead :)

BEAUTY PROPERTIES OF CORNMEAL

There are a variety of soaps available in the market today. Each claiming to be better than the other, through advertisements screaming from newspapers, magazines, TV etc. Shelves at stores are lined with different types of soaps, each more appealing than the other and claiming to produce a smooth and soft petal like complexion if used. But in older days women did not use soap on their face but they preferred using granulated cornmeal.

Granulated cornmeal is one of the most valuable skin cleansers. It never fails to cleanse the skin and stimulate its circulation. It removes all the surface dirt and waste matter and accelerates the circulation. When having a bath, generously sprinkle cornmeal on the face and body and then wash off with soap and water. When using cornmeal for the first few times, avoid vigorous rubbing, as the skin has to get accustomed to it. This cornmeal bath puts the skin in a splendid condition and gives it a fresh tone and firmness.

Every morning when washing the face, sprinkle a little cornmeal on a wet wash cloth and gently rub the face. This stimulates the pores, the nerves, muscles and increases circulation. It tends to increase the activity of the pores and enables them to eliminate the impurities and blackheads. Pimples too will lessen with each treatment. Cornmeal as a treatment for oily skin is marvelous.

If the skin is dry, put a few drops of coconut oil on the wash cloth and sprinkle the cornmeal on it. Then apply this to the face. It will soften the skin and the oil will be absorbed to a limited degree.

Another valuable use of cornmeal is to give the hands a friction bath. When washing the hands, put some of the cornmeal in your wet and soapy palms and rub them well. This will remove any stains. If hands are dry, put a few drops of olive oil in the palms and sprinkle the cornmeal and rub well. This will soften the hands.

Cornmeal is very beneficial as a dry shampoo and should be used once a week. To use as a shampoo, part the hair in various places, then sprinkle the cornmeal on the scalp and apply generously on the hair, spreading the hair out so the cornmeal remains on the scalp for 4-5 mins. Now rub the scalp until it feels all aglow, then take a small Turkish towel and rub the hair vigorously, then remove the cornmeal by thoroughly brushing the hair. After the cornmeal is removed, press the bristles of the brush on the scalp, push back and forth from side to side. Do not leave the brush but keep it pressed to the scalp. When done rightly the hair will not tangle. This treatment loosens the dead skin and dried oils and keeps the scalp clean and is excellent for hair.

PREPARE FOR THE SUMMERS- PART-2

  •   Hot days are here; keep your energy high through some careful planning. Keep outdoor activities for the evening. Take a little rest during the day especially after lunch; I can understand that it is not possible for us to take a nap. You will feel fresh, rejuvenated and recharged so try it out yourself.
  •   Get yourself a light citrusy perfume/deo whichever you like. Let your hair dry naturally whenever possible. If you have to use a dryer than hold it away from the hair and keep moving it, do not concentrate on one particular area/strand.

  •       Take out all your creamy lippies, I feel this type of lipstick is great for this time. Use light shades or MLBB shades for the day and move on to brighter ones for the nights.

  •    A diet of fresh fruits and vegetables is highly recommended. The darker, outer leaves of salad and greens are 20 times higher in Vitamin A than the paler inner ones. Avoid all fried and spicy food and retort to fresh homemade food.

  •    During this time use gram flour (besan ) for a smooth and glowing complexion. Take about a cup of besan and add to it some rose water, strain the paste through a fine cloth. Then apply this paste thinly on the face, neck, arms, legs etc. not forgetting your nape. Then wash off with cool water after 20 mins.

  •    Another way to pamper your skin is to use tomato juice, regular use will make your skin flawlessly pretty. Simply press small tomato bits through a muslin cloth and collect the juice in a cup. Apply on your face arms and legs and allow it to dry before splashing with cold water.

  •    Henna is the oldest natural way to treat your hair. Apart from conditioning, it can give the hair beautiful shades and lustre.

  •      Wear cottons instead of synthetics clothes. Choose pastels and cool shades, florals are in right now.

Next we shall talk about makeup and colors that are in this summer. Thanks for reading this post and have a great weekend ahead :)

YOGURT FOR BEAUTY

Good Morning girls, I love yogurt and I think most of you do too. Yogurt is an excellent cleansing, softening as well as binding agent. It is suitable for all skin types, hence we can combine yogurt with many other ingredients to form various combination of masks.

* Yogurt combined with tomato pulp serves as a good astringent, therefore is great for oily skin.

* Yogurt and mashed/pureed cucumber has a toning and freshening effect. Also whitens the skin and works great as a pre-party mask.

* When yogurt is combined with crushed parsley leaves it makes an excellent mask for combination skin.

* A mixture of yogurt and honey works well as a powerful moisturiser for dry skin.

* Yogurt in combination with egg white irons out wrinkles, whitens and softens the skin. Best suited for oily and combination skin types.

* Yogurt can be combined with equal parts of fuller's earth/multani mitti and fresh mint juice. This mask is effective against pimples/acne, best suited for oily acne-prone skin.

All yogurt based masks must be first washed off with warm water and then finished off with a splash of cool water. Hope you all like reading this and get benefitted by yogurt. Yumm... how much I love it :D Have a beautiful day ahead. Thanks :)

POWER SHOWER

Showers are a good perk up in the morning. A great way to start your day. Showers are quick and stimulate your body.

Start with tepid shower and end with a blast of cold water for just a second. Allow thie powerful spray to come down on your body. Give your body an invigorating buff with a body brush/loofah. Use a mild shower gel in a citrusy fragrance. Rinse off with the sting of shower.

Dry vigorously, using a towel folded lengthwise. Clasp the ends of towel and see-saw your back and lower back dry.

Smooth on a rich moisturising body lotion for that soft and shiny skin.

Never soak yourself in a very hot bath. Fill the tub with hot water roughly 7 inches deep and add required quantity of cool water to make the water bearable but not hot or cold. Add 6 tbspn of Epsom salt and climb into the tub.

Your lower body till your waist must be immersed in the water. Now splash water all over yourself and follow by rubbing and scrubbing your body. Clean finger/toe nails with a nail brush and scrub off dead cells on your heels with a pumice stone or foot file.

Use a body brush to clean the skin on your back and shoulders as these areas are more prone to blemishes. A loofah/sponge can be used for the rest of your body, with firm circular movements.

Slide further into the tub and gently rub your stomach with a loofah in a clock wise direction. This will encourage circulation and help to break down cellulite buildup. Step out and rinse with plain water. Dry with a soft fluffy towel. Apply body lotion in a fragrance you love.

For a herbal soak- Sage leaves, Rose petals, Lavender and Sea Salt can be mixed together into a small muslin bag. Run hot water through the muslin bag and fill up the tub as required. Soak in this precious water for a luxurious feeling. It leaves your skin feeling soft and silky.

ORIFLAME VERY ME COVER UP CONCEALER- SWATCHES & REVIEW

1 gm for INR 198

Company Says:- Hide imperfections with easy-to-use concealer stick for a fresh, natural look. Contains Tea tree Oil to soothe and calm blemishes.

Ingredients:- Not Listed

My Opinion:- Concealers are very important when we want to achieve a flawless skin. Under eye dark circles, blemishes, spots etc can mar your looks. Due to lack of sleep, I sometimes get circles around my eye area and also I have to conceal the 2 tiny pimple scars on my left cheek. In this case, I need a good concealer which can work on under eyes as well as on spots. So I ordered for Oriflame's Very Me Cover Up Concealer in Perfect Light but I was given Dark Secret instead.

The packaging of this concealer is very impressive, looks like a marker pen :P Its a black pen with a green cap and it is retractable, no hassles of sharpening :D Once a week I clean off the tip with a tissue very gently. It has a very mild and sweet fragrance which is gone after application but it doesn't have any tea tree fragrance at all.
Swatch

The concealer is creamy and gives medium coverage to under eye area but for the 2 little spots it doesn't do much, it is not good for heavy under eye dark circles and very dark spots. I apply it in dots around my eye area and over the tiny spots and gently blend in with either my ring finger or a concealer brush. It blends very well and merges into the skin well. Then I set it with a translucent powder using a puff by dabbing gently, brushing off the excess powder with a large fluffy brush. I don't use foundation on a daily basis so before applying the concealer I apply my tinted moisturiser but you can apply a foundation as usual.

The staying power of this concealer is around about 2 hours and then is starts fading and finally it completely evaporates from my skin. This happens maybe because I have oily skin :( At nights it lasts a little longer compared to day. Another problem is it melts in the heat as I sweat but in my purse it is in perfect condition, doesn't melt or become too soft or break. It is not very pigmented and is a good option for girls with lesser flaws.
Blended Swatch

Pros:-
Creamy
Blendable
Cheap (Cheapest concealer I think)
Pencil form
Easy to carry around, good for girls on the go

Cons:-
Stays for not more than 2 hours
Melts due to sweating
Evaporates altogether
Gives minimal coverage, not good for dark circles or dark spots/blemishes

I rate this product 3.5 out of 5. No I will not repurchase this concealer as there are other brands to explore.

NECK- TONE IT UP

Ever despaired of wearing that strand of pearls or that delicate chain of gold? All because you were ashamed of your ugly neck? Don't worry, help is at hand. You regularly cleanse, tone and moisturise your face. Your feet are scrubbed and your hands well manicured. But ignoring your neck is sure to affect your looks. All that lack of attention will show as a darker, unsightly and if not careful, a wrinkled neck that detracts people with its sheer unseemliness. Usually, all salon treatments like facials do good to your neck. If your neck is darker than the rest of you, try bleaching but not at home. Don't forget to cleanse, tone and moisturise it. Be generous with the sunscreen lotion and the anti-wrinkle cream.

Toning the neck
Want to get rid of that stubborn double chin and lift up your neck? Try out this exercise and you'll soon notice the difference.

1. Sit straight, erect with your chin held high. Keep your lips closed. Try and smile with only your upper lip.

2. Place one hand at the base of your throat over the collar bone and pull down slightly on the skin with a firm grip

3. Tilt your head. You will feel a strong pull on the chin and neck muscles. Return to your normal head position.

Repeat the exercise 30 times. If your neck and chin are posing problems, do this exercise twice a day.

This time when I saw the Avon Brochure, I immediately knew what to order for. I got my productsa couple of days back, so here is my small little summer haul.

PIMPLES- CARE N CURE

Hello girls, summer is here and this is pimple time for me :( So I start taking precautions way before the hot days are here. My skin is oily and tends to get oilier by the day during summers :( But then I have been coping wit this problem since I was 14-15 years old. Here I have for you all (I mean the girls with pimples) a few tips and recipes which has been of great help to me.

We all know that the 1st step to caring for and curing pimples is to keep the skin clean and oil-free at all times. Use a gel cleanser or cleanser specially suited for oily skin.

Go makeup-free whenever you have pimples. I avoid foundation and blusher when I have pimples because these 2 products seems to worsen the problem. Mineral foundation is ok if I must apply foundation but blusher is a big no no for me. So keep an eye on all the products you use and how they react to your skin.

Chop a handful of margosa/neem leaves and boil in 1 1/2 lts of water and simmer for 5 mins. Now bottle the remain water after sieving it. Wash face with it as many times as day as possible. Or use it with a cotton pad all over pimples. It works as a healer because of its antiseptic properties.

Make a paste of- mint leaves, margosa leaves, fenugreek leaves and basil leaves. Add a little multani mitti for binding and use this pack on your pimply face. Works wonders for my skin.

Take special care of those pimples which oozes out blood or puss. Don't tease them, leave them alone or you risk yourself an infection and a bigger breakout. Take marigold petals, chop fine and boil in a little water. Simmer till the water is reduced to half its original quantity. Clean pimply parts with this solution. It is real so beneficial, I would call it magic.

A very important healing pack- carrot juice, tomato juice, multani mitti/fuller's earth, sandalwood powder, khus powder, kapurkachri, neem powder, orange peel powder- all in equal amount. Mix well apply daily on your face till pimples are gone completely.

Some other important tips for curing and caring for pimples- drink lots of water, take your regular dose of fresh fruits/veggies (GLVs are important), don't let your hair fall on your face, control dandruff, avoid spicy food, keep your hands away from your face, cut off your nails, use a clean face towel daily, avoid sweets and fried food as well. Ok ok I stop here........ :D

FRUIT MASSAGE FOR OILY SKIN- DIY

Oily skin needs regular cleansing and care. Most massage creams are oil based and make the oilier. So it is difficult to find a suitable massage cream for oily skin. So thought I, why not prepare a natural and fruity massage cream/lotion at home itself. And also we (1s with oily skin) cannot massage while we have a breakout. We have to wait patiently for all the pimples/acne to go and only then can we go for a massage. I can swear by a facial massage because its so relaxing and good for the skin. But do take caution not to massage often because it would make the skin oilier. So with the correct massage cream and right frequency you will benefit from a facial massage even if you have oily skin.

Coming to the massage cream, take a tbspn of pureed cucumber, 1 tspn orange juice, 1 drop peppermint oil and 1/4th tspn honey and mix very well. Cucumber is good for oily skin we all know that, it cuts off that dull dull; honey is a powerful moisturiser; orange juice is good for reducing oiliness and contains Vitamin C and Peppermint oil is good for pimples.

Now massage your face, neck and nape with this massage cream for 10-15 mins. Wash off and apply a suitable moisturiser. Or you can go a step ahead and put on a face pack. This has been in my skin care routine for quite a while now and I have been much benefited from it. Hope the 1s with oily skin like it and benefit from this recipe. Thanks girls :D

SUMMER MAKEUP TIPS

Start by cleansing and toning. Using a toner or astringent is very important, as this will close the pores and minimize oil secretion. During the summers this step is a must.

If you have to use makeup, use a oil-free tinted moisturiser with SPF. For the ones with sensitive skin use Lacto Calamine all over face and neck.

Also the ones with uneven skin tone, use as little foundation as possible. Use a damp sponge to blend it in. Also better use a liquid foundation.

Translucent powder is very important in the summer. Apply with a big fluffy brush.

Match eyeshadow colors with your skin tone. Apply eyeshadow on your lids only to compliment your look. Also use a highlighter on your brow-bones. Sand, champagne, soft pink, beige, pale peach and nude colors work best for summer.

Apply a thin line of liner, preferably brown, on the upper lashline only. Line below lashes with a brownish eyeshadow. Use waterproof liner and eye products.

Transparent or brown mascara on your lashes to make them look longer and thicker. Use waterproof mascara.

Blushers should be nearly nude. Soft pink or natural brown are best but powder blushers work best.

Outline lips with a nude lip liner and fill in with it. Light subtle shades look flattering in the summers. Now fill in with a lippie using a brush. Blot with a tissue paper and reapply another coat of lippie. Nude shades looks best during summers. A dash of gloss on the center of the lips to plump them up.
