At the heart of INITIALISTE, the Regenerative Complex protects stem cell environment, thus improving the hair quality at its source. Hair Care during Diabetes by Dr. Apoorva Shah, founder of Richfeel- PR INFO

Diabetes is the curse of the modern society. The bitter truth of living in the jet age is that stress, sedentary lifestyle and fast food has led to a boom in the occurrence of diabetes. According to the recently published findings of the International Diabetes Federation in 2007, the country with the largest number of people with diabetes is India (40.9 million). The WHO has cautioned that India is all set to become the diabetes capital of the world by 2050. Thus with our mega-size life styles with underused gym memberships and high-calorie/high-fat diets, diabetes is on the rise, striking people at younger and younger ages

Diabetes has many ill effects on the sufferer’s body. People with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes are at a much higher risk than the rest of the general population for damage to the eyes, kidney, nerves, heart and blood vessels. Another less known consequence of diabetes is hair loss.

There are many reasons that explain the inter-relation of diabetes and hair loss.

1. Diabetes negatively affects the body’s circulatory system. This means that less amount of nutrients and oxygen reach the upper and the lower extremities of the body i.e. the feet and the scalp areas. If diabetes is causing poor blood circulation to the scalp, the hair follicles will die resulting in hair loss. Furthermore, this poor circulation may result in the prevention of further hair growth. So not only is diabetes causing the loss of your current hair, it is also preventing the growth of new hair.

2. Diabetes brings about hormonal imbalance in a patient’s body. These hormonal changes may be manifested through hair loss. This also explains the reasons behind hair loss in pregnancy and menopause.

3. Diabetes is associated with high levels of stress. And stress has long been reputed to be the main culprit behind hair loss. So if modern day hurry and worry plague you, hair fall is certain.

4. Drugs that are used treat diabetes may also lead to hair loss. If you feel that particular regimens are causing distressful hair loss, then consult your doctor to get your prescription modified.

5. Diabetes may weaken the immune system, making it susceptible to other diseases. This weakened immunity may lead to scalp conditions like ringworm or other fungal diseases which in turn may cause hair fall.

6. Autoimmune diseases such as skin rashes and thyroid dysfunctions can be part and parcel of suffering from diabetes and these diseases are known to cause massive hair loss.

7. Diabetes may lead to high levels of oxidative stress. The unstable free radicals generated in the body due to diabetes may also lead to considerable hair loss.

Another important factor is that the healing and rejuvenation time in diabetics is comparatively slower than in normal individuals. This leads to significant hair reduction, as diabetics cannot maintain the average cycle of re-growth.

Hair loss during diabetes is sometimes attributed to Telogen effluvium. All hair has a growth phase, termed anagen, and a resting phase, namely telogen. In normal people, 5-15% of the hair on the scalp is in telogen at any given time. Telogen effluvium is a condition triggered when a physiologic stress or hormonal change like diabetes causes a large number of hairs to enter telogen at one time leading to diffuse hair shedding.

So, hold it right there. Step away from the food and drop the remote control. As hard as it may be in moments of weakness to police yourself, you must try because a warm seat on the couch and too many empty calories could lead to uncontrolled diabetes and consequently hair loss.

So resist the urge to just curl up on your couch in front of the television with a bag of chips and get set on the goal of diabetes control if you want to preserve your lustrous locks.

If you notice unwarranted hair loss, it is very important that you seek immediate medical assistance. Since hair loss can cause untold trauma, lack of self esteem, and social anxiety, it is also advisable to visit a Trichologist and take expert advice.

Monsoon Hair & Makeup: Tips by Oriflame India's Beauty & Makeup Expert- PR INFO

Makeup tips for Monsoon by
Ms. Aakriti Kochar, Beauty & Makeup Expert, Oriflame India

For monsoon, the most significant thing is to opt for matte makeup. Avoiding gloss, sheen or shimmer on the face is recommended. As the makeup settles down, the glow will come on its own. Opt for a matte finish primer that prepares a good base for your foundation and prevents make-up from spoiling.

A matte finish primer and foundation helps maintaining the skin’s complexion and preventing it from oxidizing which is a result of excessive oil secretion on the skin. Use a mattifying powder, preferably a compact to finish the base. This will ensure matte skin for longer! In case your skin produces excess sebum, make sure you carry blotting paper that soaks excess oil without removing the makeup.

The following should be AVOIDED:

Cream based makeup products, whether it is foundation, blush or eye shadow as they are likely to make you sweat more

Too much shimmer and glitter as this will overdo the shine on your face

Sticky /thick lip gloss on top of your lipstick as it can make you uncomfortable

Use of waterproof products for eyes is essential. Choose the eyeliner, eye kohl and mascara carefully, as they are the products which you would want to prevent from dripping off and smudging. One aspect that we often tend to ignore is taking the make-up off. Always use a makeup remover, especially for waterproof makeup to remove these products.

Tips for Monsoon Hair care by
Ms. Aakriti Kochar, Beauty & Makeup Expert, Oriflame India

Use the right comb to untangle your hair - wide toothed combs with less static

To avoid breakage, comb your hair at the bottom and then start combing from the roots

Make sure your hair is fully wet before you apply shampoo and use warm water for this

Like your skin, your hair also needs hydration. Drink plenty of water

Eat a balanced protein rich diet, along with plenty of fruits and vegetables

Condition your hair and leave it on for few minutes for deep conditioning

Frizzy Hair – Some of us might face friziness during monsoons, use cream based shampoos and conditioners. Frizzled hair is an outcome of raise cuticle. For frizzy hair, use a mild shampoo and a light weight leave in conditioner to lock moisture. Use hair masks for Dry and frizzy hair to get that extra moisture to last good 1-2 months

Dull hair – You can oil your hair once in 15 days in monsoons. Leave it on for 1 hour and then shampoo and condition. Treat your hair with hair spas once a month, enriched with protein that will lock moisture levels and close the cuticles

Hairfall – Hair fall increases during monsoons but this is a temporary phase. Use specific shampoos and conditioners for anti – hair fall/breakage. Also, indulge in hair masks and spas, specially designed for hair fall. This will strengthen your hair from the roots as well as the length

Dandruff – Humidity leads to itchy flaky scalp in Monsoons. One may have a healthy scalp throughout the year, but during monsoons are struck by Dandruff menace. Use an effective Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. Cut down on styling and styling products, that further aggravates the problem by attracting dirt and grime

Flat Hair - Use volume boost shampoos and conditioners to give your hair that extra volume look. This common problem during monsoons for oily or thin hair

Oily Hair/Scalp – Use a light weight shampoo and conditioner, preferably gel based products that do not leave your hair feeling oily or sticky. Wash your hair regularly to get rid of excess oil and dirt. Oily hair tends to become limp during monsoons and required shampoo that will give volume to the hair

Monsoon – Skin and Hair Care

Article by Written by: Dr. Manjiri Patankar Puranik, M.B.B.S., M.D., Founder, InstaSculpt

After the terrific heats of summer we all wait for the monsoons as we all love to enjoy the gloomy clouds and with the rains pouring in its pleasant and reviving but absolutely hate it when it comes to the rain damaging our hair or skin.

It is very crucial to take care of both hair and skin in the monsoon to avoid dryness which could damage them badly.

Coming to skin first, because of the humidity in air being increased the skin has a tendency to become dry very easily. Skin requires regular cleansing in order to keep it looking fresh and healthy. Taking the care of skin also depends on type of skin each one of us have. As per the skin type one needs to take necessary care.

Dry skin: Keeping the skin hydrated all the time is very important. Cleansing is important during the monsoons. The high humidity causes sweat, build-up dirt, and dust along with other toxins on the surface of skin. Keeps skin nourished. Loss of moisture from skin makes it appear dry and lifeless. Use a good moisturizer at least 2 to 3 times a day.

Oily Skin: Use a very mild cleanser to get the dead skin and dirt off from skin. Use pure oatmeal scrub to cleanse oily skin or use ripe papaya pulp as a mild exfoliant.

Apart from cleansing, Toning is a necessity at night. During monsoon, a lot of airborne and waterborne germs are let free. So a good anti-bacterial toner will go a long way to prevent skin infections and breakouts. It is a good idea to get anti-bacterial face wash too.

Moisturizing in the rains is as important as it is in summer. Monsoons can mean a de-hydrating effect on dry skin and an excessive-hydrating effect on oily skin. The skin gets wet often and with the constant wetting and drying, a lot of dehydration takes place. That explains the itchy feeling one gets during monsoons. Use a non-water based moisturizer, if you happen to get wet often. Otherwise a water- based moisturizer will do just fine.

Though its monsoon, still don’t avoid the usage of SPF, minimum is SPF 15 as UV A rays are all the time around us hence do follow the use of sunscreen on daily basis.

Since the temperature is humid make sure the skin is kept dry to avoid getting fungal infections.

Hair Care

Along with Skin is equally important to take care of hair. It’s very important to keep hair dry to avoid getting infections or lice infestations. The monsoons also bring in humid air which makes the hair drier so it’s very important to keep hair simple with fewer styles and less usage of any cosmetic products.

Styling can only be done when it goes suddenly from damp to dry. Damp hair is very flexible. It stretches easily and breaks. It needs to be handled cautiously. Towel dry gently and don’t pull or comb wet hair. Use your fingers or a blow dryer to dry hair until it’s just slightly damp.

Try to keep the hair as dry as possible so as to avoid any infections. Also hair could become brittle or lifeless if there is repetitive use of hair dryers to keep it dry hence allows it to dry naturally.

Important Tips for Clean and fresh hair:

* If possible keep your hair tied in the monsoons. Go for a shorter hair cut if you want to avoid dirt build up on your scalp or get splits ends. A well-groomed look is essential in the monsoons.
*Do not let your hair get wet in the rain. Pollution, floating toxins in the air come down with the rain and settle on your scalp. This makes your scalp feel itchy and may cause dandruff. Always cover your hair. Make umbrellas or raincoats your best friends, to avoid danger to your pretty locks.
* Rinse your hair with a gentle shampoo and condition it after, if your hair happens to get drenched in the rain.
* While traveling by public transport or perhaps on a two wheeler, keep the head covered with scraf/cap,etc. This protects hair from probable damage.

After all monsoons are there to be enjoyed, so take care of skin and hair with simple steps and enjoy the rains!!!!

Richfeel Hair Forever has brought the latest technology of aesthetic hair implants in India. Surgical hair restoration works essentially by extracting hair from a hair loss resistant area and planting them on the recipient, affected area. In a typical hair loss condition, hair is lost from the temples, top and crown. The remaining hair (at the back and sides of the head) is permanent hair which is not lost.

When hair loss is in a latent stage and a large balding area is to be covered or one is suffering from irreversible baldness, non-surgical hair systems are the best option. ORIFLAME Skin and Hair Care tips for Holi

Nowadays, Holi is not the best time for one’s skin and hair. The dry "gulal" and colours are generally not derived from natural sources. They contain chemicals, shiny particles of mica and even lead, which not only irritate the skin, but collect on the scalp.
Follow these steps to ensure that you have a safe, fun and memorable Holi:

  • Apply a sunscreen and rich moisturiser like Oriflame Essentials Extra-Comfort Cream at least 20 minutes before going out to play with colours. Use a sunscreen of SPF 15 and above, such as Oriflame Sun Care Cream SPF 20. If your skin is prone to pigmented patches, select one with a higher SPF

  • Generously apply copious amounts of olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or mustard oil on your face and body. Oriflame Swedish Spa Beauty Wonder Oil is a good option for extra nourishment

  • Massage your hair well from scalp to hair tips with coconut, olive or castor oil, such as Oriflame Coconut & Ricemilk Hot Oil. This oil gives your hair a protective covering and shields it from harmful chemicals, dust and dirt.  This will help the colours come off easily later

  • Cover your lips with a thick coat of lip balm like Oriflame Tender Care Lip Balm to protect them from colour damage

  • You can use light daytime make-up. Touch up your eyes with an eyepencil or kajal stick like Oriflame Kohl Pencil and use a lip gloss or balm. However, if you intend to play rigorously with colours, try not to wear any make-up

  • Protect your nails from the colours by using transparent nail polish, such as Oriflame Beauty Crystal Base & Top Coat. If you have long nails, you can use it on the underside of the nails as well. One could also use Oriflame Beauty Nail Shield which strengthens the nails while protecting them

  • While playing, try to ensure a safe and skin-friendly Holi by using herbal or natural colours: henna or spinach (green), turmeric or marigold flowers (yellow), tomatoes or beetroot or kumkum (red) & tea leaves (brown)

  • After playing with the colours, remember not to use harsh soaps to get rid of colours from your skin. Do not wash your face with soap immediately, because soap is alkaline and causes further dryness. Instead, use a cleansing cream or lotion, like Optimals Cleansing Milk, which soothes the skin while cleansing. Massage on the skin and then wipe off with moist cotton wool

  • Sesame seed (til) oil can also be used to remove colours by massaging it on face and body. This not only helps to remove the colours, but gives added protection to the skin

  • While washing your hair, first rinse them with plenty of plain water to wash away the dry colours and tiny particles of mica. Apply a mild natural shampoo, like Oriflame Nature Secrets Shampoo for Greasy Hair Nettle & Lemon, which deeply cleanses the hair without causing any further damage. Work it into the hair with your fingers, massage the scalp gently and rinse thoroughly with water again

  • Add the juice of a lemon to a mug of water and use it as a last rinse. This helps to restore the acid-alkaline balance of the scalp. Beer can also be used as a last rinse to soften and condition the hair

  • You can also apply a hair pack made of fenugreek seeds, amla powder, boiled shikakai powder and water. Another homemade recipe for hair pack that works is a mixture of henna powder, four teaspoons of lemon juice and curd. Apply on hair and wash after an hour

DOVE DAMAGE THERAPY NOURISHING OIL CARE-VITA OIL SERUM-REVIEW

With Revolutionary Vita Oils

Smoothes upto 99% roughness* for damage free hair

40 ml for INR 300

Company Says: -
Did you know?
Dryness and dullness are signs of damaged hair leading to hair that’s weak and rough to touch. That’s why new Dove with Vita Oils goes deep inside and restores smoothness, softness and shine.

VITA OILS SYSTEM
Revolutionary Non Greasy formula.
Unique blend with natural coconut, almond and sunflower oils that are so fine they are rapidly absorbed to deeply nourish and replenish essentials vitamins.
Instant nourishment boost for smooth and shiny hair anytime
Based on lab test, improvement of hair smoothness comparing damaged hair treated with non-conditioning shampoo vs Dove Nourishing Oil Care

Next generation nourishment for hair that’s strengthened against damage

Directions: - Pump 3-5 times depending on your hair length onto palm. Smooth evenly through wet or dry hair. Avoid roots. Style as desired. No need to rinse. For best results, use daily with Dove Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo & Conditioner.

Ingredients: - Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Amodimethicone, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cyclotetrasiloxane, Perfume, Tocopheryl Acetate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butylated Hydroxytoluene.

My Opinion: - Serums are very essential part of hair care; it adds the finishing touches to hair after shampooing and conditioning etc. For many years now I have this habit of reaching out for a serum after every singler shampoo/hair wash. I have tried tons of serums and have liked most of them, though I first started with Livon Silky Potion when I was in school and loved back then. Now coming back to the review, the packaging is classy and good looking. A transparent plastic pump bottle with a white plastic dispenser and transparent lid. The bottle is somewhat oval-ish in shape which I like. Also its travel friendly and takes up less space since its sleek enough.

This serum is golden yellowish and runny in consistency. Its texture is silky and its completely non-greasy and extremely light. This serum is nearly non-scented (too mild for my nose to pick up) and just 2-3 pumps are enough for my hair. I apply serum after shampooing and conditioning or after using a mask/pack on my hair. I take a single pump, rub it between my palms and start applying on the lengths of my hair and then I take another pump and another one till I am done. One very big advantage of this serum is that it can be applied on dry hair as well and that too without greasiness.

This serum contains Vita Oil which is a blend of Coconut, Almond and Sunflower Oils which are extremely beneficial for the hair. It adds shine to my hair, detangles my hair after a wash and smoothens my hair making it soft and silky. This serum does not weighs down my hair or makes it limp and greasy. I like the fact that it decreases frizz and makes my hair quite manageable. Rs 300 for 40 ml is decent pricing because this bottle lasts me for about 2+ months with regular use. The bottle is reusable and I shall be able to use it for products which I think should come with a pump dispenser.

Pros: -

* The phrase Vita Oils impressed me

* Makes my hair manageable

* Controls frizz

* Makes my hair silky, shiny and smooth

* Affordable at Rs 300 for 40 ml, taking into consideration the fact that it takes more than 2 months to get over with regular use

* Can be applied on dry hair as well with good results

Cons: -

* Contains silicons but which serum does not contain chemicals

* None actually

I rate this Dove Damage Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Vita Oil Serum 4.75 out of 5. It’s a nice serum and does what its supposed to do, no tall claims are made by the company and whatever they say is nearly true. This is the only serum after Livon Silky Potion that I have repurchased. It’s a must try for all girls who long for shine and frizz control.
